Five Second Summary:

In The Bone Season, we follow the slightly stressful life of Paige Mahoney who lives in London about 40 years in the future. London is a bit different, clairvoyance is illegal and practicing it to make money is very-illegal.

Of course, our main character, Paige, is all about practicing her very unique gift for money. She works in the criminal underworld of London. That is until she is attacked on a train and accidentally kills two men “bloodlessly,” yes I am being vague on purpose.

She is taken to Oxford where she learns that the government really is not running the government, the Rephaim have been for over two hundred years. Paige is placed with Warden (aka the sexiest of the Rephaim men) to be trained for the Rephaim’s purposes. Paige is really not into doing what she is told, she runs into some issues.

Best Things:

  • The world is complex and interesting.
  • There are 2 other books in the series right now. There are supposed to be 7 when it is all said and done.
  • The main character is not damsel in distress.
  • Warden. Did I mention him? He is lovely and horrible, but you know also lovely.

Meh Things:

  • There are a lot of terms to learn. I mean there is literally a glossary at the end of the book to help you out. If you are not an avid reader this might turn you off.

My Thoughts:

I love The Bone Season. I give it 5 out of 5 stars. All the stars.

This is one of my favorite on-going series. It is not young adult, which I love. The other books available now are: The Mime Order and The Song Rising all available on amazon.

I don’t want to give anything away, but I have suggested this book to a lot of my students and they usually come back asking to borrow the next book.

“No, Paige. I am trying to help you.”
“Go to hell.”
“I already exist on a level of hell.”
“Exist on one that isn’t near mine.”
