Amber McBride is an English professor, published poet and YA author who hails from Northern Virginia—or at least that is where she has spent the most time. Born in Heidelberg, Germany, Amber has lived in Boston, parts of California and all over Virginia.
She attended graduate school at Emerson College in Boston, MA. There she wrote her master’s thesis, Tattooed Dove, which was a collection of poetry. Her lifestyle blog adopts the name of her thesis. A Tattooed Dove is a person who is rough around the edges, but morally sound.
Amber is also an avid reader—averaging around 100 books a year. She also enjoys searching for new music, cooking, writing poetry, traveling and hanging out with her family in her spare time.
Amber served as the media assistant at the Furious Flower Poetry Center for two years before teaching English at James Madison University and Northern Virginia Community College. Her students call her Ms. Mermaid, because of her obsession with mermaids. Her family calls her little wolf. Either way she is hardly ever called by her name. Why go by one name when you can have many?
Amber also would like to remind you that she appreciates you.
About Tattooed Doves
The idea of a Tattooed Dove is something that raddled around in my head for a long time. It probably spurred from the a childhood love of tattoos and having a very corky personality. Society has an idea that we should be one thing, when really we are mirror of thousands of things.
My master’s thesis, was a collection of poems that loosely fit together and the title stuck. Tattooed Dove is about balance, not perfection.
