Tattooed Doves May 2018 Playlist

It’s that time of year, college kids are getting out of school, it is getting hot and we all need new music to jam to with the windows down. I notice that this mix has a lot of electronic, auto-tune-ish songs on it. Hopefully you guys enjoy it. Happy May! Listen in Spotify!

Sensations-Live Acoustic by Elohim

Elohim has such an interesting quality to her voice. I think that the live acoustic version is the best, it is delicate and edgy. The piano which is the primary melody in the song will make you want to waltz.

Better by Mallrat

The finger snaps in this song are goals. I dare you to put this song on, roll your windows down and not smile. The chorus is filled with sunshine and lollipops; just give it a listen. “Maybe when the summer ends I’ll drift away from all my friends…the sun was in my eyes.”

Hands by Octavian

This song is a waterfall of sounds! If you don’t like autotune this song is not for you, but if you are ok with it especially when done in an artistic way, this song is for you. The percussion in this song sounds like a heartbeat, which I love. The song is sext. The end.

The Truth About the World by Andrea Marie

This is just a peaceful, rainfall kind of song. Good for a morning wall or an afternoon stroll.

No Tears Left To Cry by Ariana Grande

Ms. Grande came back and did not disappoint. Her new song is pop music at its best. The song is also about moving past all the drama and staying in a positive state of mind, which is always a good idea. I have had this song on repeat in my car lately. “Right now I’m in a state of mind, I want in like all the time; ain’t got no tears left to cry…”

Guidance by Ryan Keen, Yeah Boy

The fullness of sound in this song is basically a hug. It’s nice when music can hug you.

Skin by Shallou

I don’t know why I like this song. I think if you listen to it you might have a hard time pinpointing why it is lovely. I like the lyrics, the drums, the repetition. It’s just good.

Bloodstain by Wrabel

Just a creepy love song. No big deal. “And I am bleeding and I am alright with it.”

The Believer-feat John Legend by Common and John Legend

This is an older song, but the lyrics in this song are stunning. Like really sit and listen, I always play this song for people who say they don’t like rap/hip-hop. Music with a message should be a thing. Let’s make it a thing. “That ain’t the way that Langston Hughes wrote us/ Soul controllers on the shoulders of Moses/ and NoahWe go from being Precious to Oprah/ Cultivated to overcome ever since we came overseas”

Astronaut (Something About Your Love) by Mansionair

The chorus will make you want to do a little shimmy. Then you get to 1 min in and the feel of the song changes and you are like, yes, yes I like this.

This Is America by Childish Gambino

Childish Gambino blessed us with this song so we should all just listen to it. Watch the music video, which addresses gun control, the spectacle of social media, and what it means to be black in America. The music video is an essay in itself.
