The radio gets boring—being a poet I am a lyric person and listening to the same 20 songs on a constant loop literally drives me insane. In reality music options are endless, it just requires a bit more effort. I have always loved music, I use to spend hours on YouTube and iTunes looking for new music.
Now I use Spotify or Apple Music.
I love Spotify for several reasons—most artist have their music on Spotify, even Taylor Swift songs now. Unfortunately, Beyoncé has her albums on Tidal, which I get because Jay-Z owns Tidal. Another plus, every week Spotify makes a playlist for you based on your recent favorites. They even have a “Discover” section for finding new music. Best, of all I can stream from anywhere and only pay $9 a month,
I should mention that these songs are not necessarily new. They are just the magic I have discovered this month. I love all music, all genres, so here it is our first playlist. You can also find the playlist on my Spotify under Tattooed Doves Feb 2018.
Then by Anne-Marie
It’s essentially edgy pop. A song you can sway or booty bounce to depending on your preference. Favorite Lyric: Maybe you should try some therapy, maybe you should loose a couple homeboys…
Leviathan by G-Eazy
Lyric: Be careful you don’t want this. This song is so sassy. I realize I am the last one on the G-Eazy bandwagon, but I really only like this song. Lyric: When I told her I’m the devil I was smiling. I am really loving the sassy lyrics this month.
Virtue by Kllo
It has a full sound that kind of makes you want to run on a beach at night in a bikini. Also at 2:03 the song gives me life, it slows down and light percussion starts to be added back in. Really grab your bikini, this is night beach running music—remember your bedroom is a beach if you use your imagination.
Signed, Sealed, Delivered by Stevie Wonder
Who doesn’t love an oldie but goodie? Play this every morning when you brush your teeth. Start the day off right!
Monster by Jacob Banks
I mean any song that relies on hand claps for percussion has my vote. Like a southern gospel, that’s not a gospel. Lyric: They made a story out of me. They laugh and joke about my name. They put a bounty out on me, they all excited by my shame. This has been my Black History Month song. Make sure you make it till 2: 57.
Evergreen by Yebba
I like it. Lyric: Hold your current in my hands. You bring the meaning to my moments.
Good Nights (feat. Mascolo) by Whethan
I like what happens with the melody every time before the chorus.
Blood Sweat & Tears by BTS
If you are going to dabble in K-pop, dabble with BTS. Do yourself a favorite and watch the music video too.
I Miss You (feat. Julia Michaels)-Matoma Remix by Clean Bandit
Basically my anthem for all of January and into February. I love the electric violins in this song. Lyric: You weren’t a fan of pictures, so I hardly ever took them got you saved in my mind from the bedroom so that way I can’t forget your skin. Happy Valentines Day?
Rescue Me by XamVolo
Just listen to the lyrics and be amazed.
Lemon by NERD
I mean if you internet you have already heard this song.
Love Brought Weight by Old Sea Brigade
Study Vibes. Meditation Vibes. Yoga Vibes.
As It Should Be by LUCHS
Rainy fall day and Halloween mixed into a song.
Genesis by Dua Lipa
I know everyone is talking about “New Rules,” but the entire album is good. This song is my favorite. Bonus also listen to “Begging.”
